What to Expect from a Cooking Class in the Marrakech Medina

You've seen the photos — the rooftops, the spices piled high in the souk, the steam rising from a clay tajine. But nothing prepares you for actually being inside a Marrakech kitchen, hands dusted with cumin, learning to roll couscous the way Moroccan grandmothers have for centuries.

The 5 Spices Every Moroccan Kitchen Needs

Moroccan cuisine is not complicated. It is layered. The difference between a flat dish and one that makes people go quiet at the table is almost always the spices — and knowing how to use them together.

About Us

Why We Cook on the Rooftop

Most cooking classes happen in a basement or a hotel kitchen. Ours happens on a rooftop above the Medina, under a blue canvas canopy, with the call to prayer drifting across the city and the light changing from afternoon gold to evening rose as you eat.

We had a wonderful experience at this Moroccan cooking class. The food was absolutely delicious, and the whole activity was engaging and genuinely fun from start to finish. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating, making sure every need of our group was met with great attention and care. I truly hope to come back again if I return to Marrakech.

What an amazing thing to do in Marrakesh, learning to cook the local cuisine with local people. We spent a few hours learning to cook vegetarian couscous and Harira soup with Abdullah and his team. They were very friendly, knowledgeable and gave us full attention. We didn't feel rushed and were able to enjoy our food afterwards which was delicious. We highly recommend this experience.

★★★★★

I attended the cooking class and magically prepared a delicious beef tajine under the supervision of Soufiane and his dear wife. It was a great experience and I enjoyed every minute! Thank you for your hospitality and kindness and the step by step process with a lot of fun and laughter. I greatly enjoyed the time on your beautiful rooftop!

★★★★★

Amazing cooking class — Morocco style evening experience! It was so much more than a cooking class, it was a full immersion into Moroccan and Marrakech culture. We learnt some Berber and Arabic language, got to experience traditional dresses and watched the sunset from the rooftop. The cooking element was amazing — we learned a lot about the spices, the processes and the cooking style. The tea making was an additional bonus which was super fun. They were also very accommodating to my gluten free allergy. Thank you to the team for a great evening!
